Mindy’s Guide to the Eight Days of Chanukah Gift Giving- 2013 Edition!

WWBS LogoDay One
A 2012 favorite tops my list again this year. Eat bubelah, eat. You know they are going to work up an appetite from the anticipation of The Festival of Lights this year. So fill their hearts and their stomachs with a Chanukah surprise from the one and only Schmaltz Deli! Need a complete brisket dinner, bubelah? Of course you do! Got you covered. Their latkes and lox are LEGIT! Seriously, these guys bring classic Jewish food right to your door. So don’t wait, bubbe says you’re too skinny. Call or click now and put some meat on those bones.

Day Two
Are you a cat person? Doesn’t matter. This little book will make the snarkiest of catphobes laugh. It’s “Hanukcats” by Laurie Loughlin (illustrations by Gemma Correll.) They say “You can bet your blintzes that cats have plenty to say – and sing – about the Jewish holidays. Check out little tunes like “Matted Fur” and “Let Me Gloat”… crowd pleasers for sure.
Get your copy or take a sneak peek here.

Day Three
Chanukah is now in full swing. You’ve consumed all the Schmaltz Deli latkes and briscuit and suddenly realize the family is going to starve if you don’t do something NOW. You run to the corner grocery just before sundown and pick up some latke mix (we forgive you for not making them from scratch, it’s been a busy Chanukah week. You may still feel guilty.)

Fortunately, to offset your food planning incompetence, you purchased this handy nylon latke server last year from Traditions Jewish Gifts. Yay you. Now all you need is a Latke Serving Plate and you’re all set. Fear not, they’ve got you covered again. Check out this fab plate, with plenty of room for extra apple sauce!

Eat well and prosper, friends.

Day Four
Another 2012 hit finds its way to Day Four!

”“She’s always there with chopped liver and sound advice. No more worry- for the smallest or largest of challenges- the answers are here. Just ask yourself, what would bubbe say?”
Keep warm with a steaming cup of hot chocolate in a “ What Would Bubbe Say” customer mug. Or hang a “WWBS” ornament on your Chanukah bush! This shop on Café Press has everything the bubbe lover in you needs!

Day Five
Shameless plug alert. I like my book. You will too. Mindy’s Musings is a fab little gift at any time of the year, but Chanukah is as good a time as any to have some extra laughs! You can get it everywhere…amazon.com, smashwords, Goodreads, my website (www.mindylevy.com) So give ‘em some love and some laughter with my book in paperback or ebook NOW!

Day Six

A little giddy from all the Chanukah fun? No better time than now to break out the Jewish word play. Whether on a t-shirt or coffee mug, you’ll find cute expressions like
“Every version of every Jewish Holiday: They tried to kill us. We Won.” and “Jews for Cheeses” (those of us who like a little brie or stilton now and again!) My personal favorite:

Roses are reddish
Violets are bluish
If it weren’t for Christmas
We’d all be Jewish

Day Seven
Time. We are always looking for more of it and never seem to have enough. It doesn’t cost money and we can’t buy it. Interestingly enough, one of the kindest things we can do is share ours with those in need. So look at your schedule and find a window where you can share this precious commodity with someone who needs it. Here is a great site where you can find a local organization that needs your help. It takes some planning, but we can all pay it forward. Without spending a dime. http://www.volunteermatch.org/

If you don’t have time to donate, please DO find gifts that GIVE. Here are some great websites for places that give back, help others and are sure to bring you some good karma! Please check them out and consider choosing one of them and make a difference!

Day Eight
I always end with the same gift. Laughter. Everyone can give this to someone. I challenge you to bring at least one smile to the face of a family member, neighbor, coworker or stranger each and every day. Laughter is indeed the best medicine. It’s free, has no bad side effects and is available to EVERYONE!

Happy Holidays and keep smiling!

Mindy
